This was the first video on YouTube. On Saturday 23 April the world met Yakov Lapitsky, live recorded from San Diego Zoo.

In the five years of YouTube milions of people have uploaded their video. YouTube has become a worldwide online stage for stray talent. We made or dumped them. Most famous for this is Dutch Esmée Denters. This girl had the guts to show the world how beautiful she can sing by uploading self made video's. Thanks to YouTube she now has the glory.

YouTube changed the world at a rapid pace. Everyone could express themselves and they did. Everywhere in the world, people became inspired. The online stage brought and still brings them closer.

Literally sometimes, like with the YouTube Symphony Orchestra where young and old, black and white and everyone else could upload their music video to get a spot in the orchestra. They got together in April 2009 from everywhere in the world. They didn't know eachother and gave a fantastic performance in Carnegie Hall. This was the result:

Meanwhile there are many internet classics like 'Leave Britney alone' and the Star Wars parody. There are many more and you can see them on the big white screen. The theatre in Amsterdam and Upload Cinema present ‘The Canon of YouTube’.
